Under Scottish Stars
By Carla Laureano
With everything going on in the world, it was a welcome
respite to spend a few days back in Skye. The finale to the MacDonald Family
Trilogy Under Scottish Stars is the long awaited story of Serena MacDonald
Stewart, and it doesn’t disappoint.
Several years have passed since the sudden death of Serena’s
husband and Serena and her children are still dealing with the grief. A series
of events brings them back to the lovely, quaint town of Skye, where Serena
meets Malcolm Blake. Malcolm is dealing with his own tragedy and trying as best
he can to raise his niece. At first, he seems a bit rough around the edges, but
it doesn’t take long for you to see his tender side, which I’d described as
swoon worthy.
Malcolm is a strong Christian and as his love grows for
Serena, we see he struggles with his feelings for her. I liked this about the
book. There were some steamy scenes, but they never went beyond
appropriateness. No doubt some will say it was too steamy for Christian
fiction, but I don’t think so. It was realistic. Just because you’re a
Christian doesn’t mean you’re dead to desires and passion. It’s how you handle
those feelings that makes the difference. My favorite line in the book is
Malcolm answering Serena’s statement about how he didn’t seem the type to go to
church. “If I weren’t the type, I wouldn’t have left so willingly last night.”
There’s a family reunion of sorts, which enables us to catch
up on the lives of James and Ian. This was nice since we must say goodbye to
them all.
Under Scottish Stars is another well-written, engaging book
that offers a good, solid conclusion to a lovely series.
Have you read the whole series? Which story was your favorite? Did you have a favorite character in the series?
