The Price of Valor

By Susan May Warren

I love series because they allow readers to get to know characters in a more in depth way than in a standalone novel. The downside is when they finally end, you feel like you’re saying goodbye forever to some of your best friends. And, so I am feeling that sadness knowing I must say goodbye to the Global Search and Rescue team I’ve come to love.

Book three, The Price of Valor, is Hamilton Jones’ story. Ham is the best sort of man, and his love for his country, his fellow teammates, his daughter, and the love of his life, Signe, just made me like him more and more as the story unfolded.

This story has it all, international intrigue, a terrorist on the loose, a natural disaster, and a love story that has spanned decades. To say Ham never gives up is almost an understatement. And, his character is admirable because he has overcome so much in his life. The kinds of things that turn good people into bad, were it not for his faith.

If I were to boil this story down to something short and concise, I’d say it’s the perfect representation of how God pursues us, how He never gives up, and how He never leaves us. Maybe I’m completely off base, but I saw Ham as the personification of the God who loves us unconditionally, and who is always willing and ready to take us back.

If you’ve read the Montana Marshall’s series, you’re going to see some familiar people making appearances, and the story started in that series concludes in this one. But mostly, you’re going to see a great story of love.

I’ve really liked the male characters in this series: Orion, Jake, and Ham. I thought Jake was my favorite, but Orion and Ham were shining stars in this one, especially Ham.

If you’ve read Susan May Warren before, you know she’s a Christian writer and she always shares the Gospel message. You’ll see it throughout this book, and I believe it’s one of the most beautiful depictions I’ve seen.

The story will make more sense if you read the series in order, but you would still enjoy this one if you didn’t. It really is a riveting conclusion and is why I’m giving it five stars.

Have you read any of the other books in the series? Which one is your favorite? Who was your favorite character?
