Who I Am With You by Robin Lee Hatcher

I have a short list of authors I automatically pre-order their books and when I saw Robin Lee Hatcher had a book coming out in December, I pre-ordered it in May of this year. Then a funny thing happened in November. I received an Advance Read Copy by mistake. Thomas Nelson graciously let me keep the book, and I’m so glad they did because now I can give the book I bought as a present.

Who I Am With You is a character driven novel, and it is lovely. It has a dual time line, which has become very popular recently. The modern story is about Jessica Mason and Ridley Chesterfield. The story set in the 1930s is about Jessica’s great-grandfather and grandmother, Andrew and Helen Henning.

When Ridley shows up in Hope Springs, Idaho, he isn’t looking for romance, but he soon finds himself falling in love with his pregnant neighbor and her unborn child. If that’s not swoon worthy, I don’t know what is.

Jessica’s faith struggle is another important aspect of the book, and it felt very real. Betrayal is a bitter pill, but coupled with tragedy it can be crippling. Hatcher did an excellent job with this element.

I found the story of Andrew and Helen sad at times; however, I saw it as a beautiful metaphor for Christ’s love for us.

Who I Am With You is the start of a new series and the sample chapter for the next book indicates we will see the characters from the first book again. I like that.

I give it five stars not only for content, but also for the beautiful cover.
