Silent Shadows
By Natalie Walters
This is the conclusion of the Harbored Secrets series, and it’s my favorite. I loved this book. Walters definitely ended on a high note. I’m a huge supporter of our military and the sacrifices so many of our service people have made, so this book touched my heart in a very unique way. Army veteran Colton Crawford is a complex man trying to recover and find his new normal. Pecca Gallegos is this loveable woman trying to make a decent life for her son. The romance between them is tender and just steamy enough for Christian fiction to satisfy those of us who like a little more realism in our Christian romances than a kiss at the end of the book. The suspense element is excellently executed. I kinda-sorta knew the bad guy, but there’s a twist at the end that I didn’t see coming. To that I say woohoo!
It does
have a very Christian element running throughout, but it isn’t overbearing. You can
read this without having read the first two books because there isn’t any
mystery from the others that needs to be solved. However, I think you’ll more
fully appreciate how good this series is, and especially this book, if you read
them all.

The
secondary characters are a group of older veterans and a sassy older nurse and
their scenes will make you laugh out loud. And, of course, you’ll catch up with
some of the characters from the two previous books.
I think
Walters has done an excellent job portraying people with disabilities and the
challenges they face, but also she’s shown how with the right supports people
with disabilities can do life just like anyone else. This might be my favorite
element of the book.
Have you read the Harbored Secrets series? If so, which book is your favorite? What did you like most about the series?
